Abstract

Fountain houses were ubiquitous in Greek agoras in the Archaic and Classical periods. These structures were public and utilitarian, and yet often overlooked when analyzing the components of a Greek agora. This thesis examines five fountain houses across the Greek world, using architectural, archaeological, and literary evidence in order to reach a more holistic understanding of the form and function of these buildings in Greek society.
